Frequently asked questions

Common questions about our plugins, licensing, contributing, and how the project works.

Are your plugins really free?

Yes, 100%. Every plugin we build is free to download, use, and modify. There are no "pro" versions, no premium tiers, and no features locked behind a paywall. This is a permanent commitment, not a temporary marketing strategy.

How are the plugins licensed?

All WordPress plugins are licensed under the GPL (GNU General Public License), which is the same license WordPress itself uses. Our website, tools, and non-plugin code use the MIT license. Both licenses allow you to freely use, modify, and distribute the software.

Can I use your plugins on client sites?

Absolutely. You can use our plugins on any number of sites — personal, client, commercial, or otherwise. There are no usage restrictions.

How do I install a plugin?

Download the ZIP file from our plugin page or GitHub, then go to your WordPress dashboard > Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin. Some of our plugins are also available directly from WordPress.org.

Do you offer support?

We provide community-based support through our Discord server and GitHub Issues. While we don't offer paid or guaranteed support, our community is active and helpful. For bug reports, please open a GitHub issue.

How can I contribute?

There are many ways to contribute: write code, report bugs, improve documentation, help others in Discord, write blog posts, or sponsor the project. Visit our "How to Join" page for details. No application or approval needed — just start contributing.

How is the project funded?

Open WP Club runs on community contributions and sponsorships. We keep our infrastructure costs at $0 by using free and open-source tools. Sponsorships go directly toward plugin maintenance and development time.

Will the plugins always be free?

Yes. This is a core promise of Open WP Club. We will never introduce paid tiers, premium upsells, or freemium models. If we can't sustain a plugin through community support, we'd rather archive it openly than lock features behind a paywall.

Are the plugins safe to use?

All our code is open source and publicly auditable on GitHub. We follow WordPress coding standards and security best practices. If you find a security issue, please report it responsibly through our security.txt contact.

Can I request a new plugin?

Yes! Open a feature request on our GitHub Issues page or suggest it in our Discord. We prioritize plugins that solve real gaps in the WordPress ecosystem and align with our "one problem, one plugin" philosophy.
